Singing is my release.
I like to be behind the scenes and sing karaoke. Funny enough, my comfort zone isn't on the stage. I'm a people person and I love watching amazing people who are brave enough to go behind a microphone and just have fun. Every now and then you find diamonds who shine and I live for that moment. When you practice hard and perfect your craft, get out on stage behind a microphone no matter what. Just realize there comes a point when it is possible to write and sing music with a band. If people have told you "you're good", believe them.
Take the next step.
This guy's name is Tyler Ray. I will use his name because he is an aspiring musician here in Alberta.
I love to showcase that talent.
Let me preface this for a moment. Last September, we had an event called Words In The Park, put on by the WFSC and the ACCSC. I was the emcee for the event, as I am with all the WFSC events in the most recent years. This year though, KCI wanted to start booking stages for local talented musicians. I had my friend Gary Thomas, with NGT Music, come down and do a fun interactive music lesson with the kids. They all got to try different instruments and we even had a couple of them take the stage with Gary to perform their number. It was adorable! (If you made it this far, I swear this story has purpose...read on).
I had Tyler Ray take the stage at this event for a 15 minute set. I hadn't ever heard him play the keyboard before. He said he had a guitarist to bring as well. I hadn't ever heard him play either. He said he had original songs he would like to play. I hadn't heard those.
I only needed to hear one thing.
3 weeks previous, I was out at karaoke. This guy took the microphone and sang so beautiful the hair stood up on my arm. I didn't need any more than that to know the hard work he had put in to control the falsetto and vibrato in his voice marvelously. I could tell this guy had talent. I approached him and found out he plays piano and composes music. I asked him to play for me at the event and so he did.
Whatever it may be, you never know what is around the corner or how far you can go. Just try.
Karaoke to performer.
Wife to mother.
Friend to lover.
Stranger to father.
Just remember if someone is out of line, but completely honest with you.
Then push yourself onward with gratitude and effort...
